- Monthly CPI inflation in the euro area rose by 0.6% m/m in September, compared with a 0.5% forecast and 0.4% in August.
- Core CPI inflation in the euro area came in at 2.5% y/y in September, in line with expectations and up from 2.4% previously.
Headline inflation in the euro area came in slightly above expectations, while the monthly pace of price growth also accelerated, reinforcing the picture of persistent inflationary pressure. Core inflation remained more subdued, but still relatively elevated at 2.5% y/y.
The euro’s reaction has been limited, with the currency edging slightly higher against the pound sterling.
